The Osbourne Rd hotel is lodged between the Brookside Shopping Centre and the Kedron Brook. The proposed accommodation would have rooms that overlook the waterway.
Under the proposal the Dan Murphy’s would be built first while the current pub and accommodation remains operational.
They would then be demolished and rebuilt.
A large fig tree, currently next between the pub and the existing accommodation, will be retained and turned into landscaping feature for the hotel, and the adjacent Kedron Brook will be revegetated.
The fig tree will become the entrance for the new hotel that will feature three public bars, a big screen and stage area, outdoor beer garden, a terrace dining deck and a gaming room.
The hotel will feature 60 accommodation rooms as well as meeting rooms.
Some of the existing car parts between the shopping centre and the new hotel development have been set aside for future developments.
Development planners AECOM Australia said the redevelopment was aimed at revitalising the Brookside Shopping Centre precinct.
“The proposed development is seen as a catalyst for redevelopment and revitalisation of the Brookside Shopping Centre,” the application said.
“The proposed short-term accommodation, hotel and shop will provide a high-quality entertainment and dining premises for residents and visitors to Mitchelton.
“The built form is considerate of the urban village setting and surrounding residential and commercial uses.”
Brookside Shopping Centre has undergone an upheaval in recent years after Myer closed their store in the centre.
