Ella Tooth: Mouthy bartender fronts court for spitting assault

A tavern worker with too much under her belt launched a disgusting assault on another hotel’s manager, a court has heard.

Should Parliament have random breath tests?

A Kallangur bar worker who let fly a filthy spitting assault on the manager of another hotel has fronted court.

Ella Tooth, 20, was celebrating her sister’s 21st birthday at the Eaton’s Hill Hotel on May 8 when the assault happened.

Pine Rivers Magistrates Court heard Tooth was so drunk she had to be escorted from the hotel by security and the hotel manager.

When she claimed to have been assaulted by the security guard the manager suggested she contact the hotel later so they could investigate.

However when the manager tried to remove a drink from her hand on the way out of the venue, an intoxicated Tooth turned spat some of the Smirnoff Ice in his face.

She then spat saliva in the man’s face, which also went into his mouth.

The court heard Tooth, who was 19-years-old at the time, then verbally abused the manager and punched him in the back of the head.

Defence lawyer Fiona Graham told the court Tooth, who at her age was not accustomed to drinking so much alcohol, was so drunk she couldn’t recall the events but accepted they had happened.

Ms Graham said Tooth had been out drinking for six hours for her sister’s 21st birthday and had also consumed several beers prior to that.

The court heard Tooth — who worked at a local tavern — had experienced some mental health conditions and had been taking medication at the time, which should not have been mixed with alcohol.

She also explained Tooth’s own line of work meant she fully appreciated the severity of her actions.

The court also heard her behaviour might have been “triggered” by a previous experience.

Ms Graham told the court the young woman was “completely remorseful and totally embarrassed” by her actions at the Eatons Hill.

It was noted by the magistrate that while Tooth was sorry, the spitting offence was serious. However they said Tooth was “otherwise of good character” and had not drunk alcohol since.

She pleaded guilty to one count of common assault and was ordered to serve nine months on probation and had no conviction recorded.
