Chelsea Lafsky is just the second Deception Bay Little Athlete to be awarded the George Harvey Leadership Award.
George Harvey is considered by many as the patriarch of Little Athletics in Queensland.
He was the association’s first life member (1984).
The award is not for those who necessarily excel on the track or field, but for those who displayed a willingness to participate in the full range of Little Athletics events while encompassing the Harvey’s qualities.

Chelsea, 15, joined Deception Bay Little Athletics when she was six years old.
Her dedication to the club, efforts volunteering, sportsmanship and enthusiasm led the club to nominate Chelsea for the award.
Each Queensland club can nominate just one boy and one girl for the award.
Chelsea’s mum Nerissa Thomas said her daughter had no idea she had been nominated.
“She just kept saying ‘I can’t believe this’ when she got the email saying she had won it,” Thomas said.

Thomas said her daughter was always more than happy to help out around the club.
“She is always volunteering to set up, help out on working bees, sign-on days and Bunnings barbecues,” Thomas said.
“She just loves to be involved in the club.”
Chelsea, who attends Deception Bay State High School, is not older enough to take on a coaching role yet but she has been learning the ropes from other senior coaches at the club.
She was not the only Moreton Bay Little Athlete to win the award.
Luke Hollinger from Caboolture Little Athletics was named as the male recipient of the award.
