Dwayne Scott McDougall, 37, had come off parole just months before he and a friend allegedly cut the chain wire fence of a Deception Bay compound on June 13.
Caboolture Magistrates Court heard McDougall — who had an eight-page criminal history including previous jail stints and convictions for burglary — had thought he and his friend were going to get food but instead they ended up at the targeted premises.
The court heard McDougall tried entering a number of units within the compound and removed copper wire from utes parked there.
However the business owner watched the crime unfold and called police, who were there before McDougall could get away.
The court heard he tried to flee but was bitten by a police dog and arrested.
He appeared in court via video link from jail today.
McDoguall, who the court heard had lost his job at an earthmoving business prior to the offences due to a contact falling over, pleaded guilty to entering a premises with intent, attempting to enter a premises with intent, two counts of stealing and obstructing police.
He was sentences to 12 months jail for entering a premises with intent, six months jail for attempting to enter a premises and the stealing charges and was convicted and not further punished for obstructing police.
He was granted immediate parole, having served 94 days in pre-sentence custody.
