Crash investigator left “speechless” by the causes of the region’s nine fatal crashes

Nine people have died on Moreton Bay roads this year. The region’s top forensic crash investigator has, for the first time, revealed the cause of each horrific crash with the hope it will prevent any more deaths.

The faces of Queensland's shocking road toll

There have been nine fatal crashes in the Moreton Police District this year – more than double the same time last year.

Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit officer-in-charge Sergeant Greg Price said many of the crashes had occurred since the COVID-19 outbreak – a time when less cars were on the road.

Today is Fatality Free Friday.

Sgt Price has revealed the causes of the crashes in the hopes it will prevent any more tragic incidents.

“We have had an increase in motorcycle fatal crashes in the past two months along with a pushbike fatal,” Sgt Price said.

“Since the commencement of COVID-19 (March until now) we have seen a large increase in high speed crashes in the district with both Fatal and serious injuries.”

Sgt Price said many of the crashes had been caused by speed, people failing to give way and driving under the influence.

“Some of the crashes have let me speechless in regards to the total disregard of road rules and absolute dangerous acts,” Sgt Price said.

“We ask drivers within the Moreton area, not to just consider themselves, but their passengers and occupants of other vehicles.

“Fatal crashes have serious consequences of not only those involved, but families which are torn apart trying to find answers and also on those emergency services who have to attend these horrific crashes.

“So lets have a Fatal Free Friday.”
