The terrifying moment a Moreton Bay mother woke to find a stranger standing outside her child’s bedroom door has been told in court.

Brendale man Corey Cullen pleaded guilty in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Friday, January 13 to 19 charges, including attempted burglary, possession of dangerous drugs – namely 6g of methamphetamine – and possession of a knife in a public place and stealing.

Police prosecutor sergeant Andrea Ford said Cullen broke into the Kallangur home in May, 2021, where a woman and her child were sleeping.

The victim woke to find the 26-year-old standing outside her child‘s door before a struggle ensued, resulting in both parties crashing through a door and landing on the floor, when Cullen fled the scene.

Intruder Corey Cullen, 26, was sentenced in court Friday, January 13, for a litany of charges, including the May 2021 break-in at Kallangur.

Cullen’s lawyer, Farah Haddad, told the court his client was on a cocktail of Xanax and Jägermeister when he entered the property and he had no memory of the incident.

Mr Haddad told the court his client started using cannabis and ice when he was just 13-years-old and was using around 1g of ice a day as an adult.

The court heard Cullen was also charged in a separate incident, where police found a loaded firearm in his backpack at the Lawnton Tavern in March, 2022.

Mr Cullen was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and will be eligible for parole in October.
