A dozen teenagers have been taken to hospital after suffering electric shocks at a high school north of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to Clontarf Beach State High School just after 1pm on Thursday after reports a group of students had received shocks.

Principal Jo House took to social media to update parents regarding the incident at the secondary school.

Ms House confirmed during lunch hour “a number of junior students received an electrical shock from a metal casing surrounding electrical cables.”

“As a precaution the ambulance was called.

“All students were taken to Redcliffe Hospital for assessment.

“If any parent has concerns about their child who may have been involved, please consider a medical assessment.

“The safety and welfare of students and staff is always our school’s highest priority.”

The post went on to say if any parents had further concerns they could contact the school.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed crews responded to a location on Elizabeth Ave.

“A total of 12 patients were taken to the Redcliffe Hospital, all were in a stable condition,” she said.

Clontarf Beach State High School, opened 1964, is a co-educational, public high school educating students from Grade 7 through to 12.
