A new $40 million Burpengary Club and Station Village retail precinct was meant to open later this year – but COVID-19 had other ideas.
The precinct at Henderson Road, Burpengary, is one of the latest projects by local developers Comiskey Group.
Once complete the site will be home to a 2000 sqm shopping precinct and 2000 sqm community club.
Harvey Bay RSL have signed a lease to operate the club, which will include poker machines.
Construction started last year and group director Rob Comiskey said the original plan had been to open the doors by the end of 2020.
Until COVID-19 hit.

“We stopped construction for about two-and-a-half months, which was pretty hard,” Mr Comiskey said.
The group runs several entertainment venues around the Moreton Bay region including Sandstone Point Hotel, Eatons Hill Hotel and the Samford Hotel.
“Eighty per cent of our income dried up overnight,” Mr Comiskey said.
“But it has been great to get back into (construction) pretty quickly, we are just a couple of months behind.”
The roof is ready to go on and the steelwork expected to be finished within the next three weeks.
The existing retail precinct is expected to be demolished in January.
Mr Comiskey said the new plan was to unveil the retail precinct in April and the Community Club in May.

He said the retail precinct was 85 per cent full.
It will include a Seasons IGA, CJ’s Pastries, Liquorland, a barber, the existing medical centre, pharmacy and a dentist.
Mr Comiskey said other tenancies had been confirmed but he was not yet able to reveal them.
There are still opportunities for other general services such as a hairdresser and food tenancies.
He said he anticipated the development would provide at least 200 new jobs when open.
It has also supported approximately 200 jobs during construction.
“We have been working on this project for 15 years,” Mr Comiskey said.
“It is pretty spectacular, it is even bigger than I imagined.”
