A 24-year-old with a lengthy criminal history denied bail after going on a joy ride in an allegedly stolen car.

A young man with a lengthy criminal history told police he took methamphetamine for four days before hopping into a car cops claim was stolen.

A young man accused of fraud admits going on a meth-fuelled bender before he allegedly went for a joy ride in a ‘stolen car’.

Zachary Gordon Chapman appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court from the watch house via video link today.

He is charged with one count of breaching bail and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Duty Lawyer Farrah Haddad told the court Mr Chapman was contesting the unlawful use charge as “he didn’t know the car was stolen”.

Mr Chapman is alleged to have been the passenger in the car when it was intercepted by police at the weekend.

The court heard Mr Chapman told police he was having a sleep as he had been taking ice for four days straight.

At the watch house, Mr Chapman told police he would take off to Victoria and start again as he had a clean slate there.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Tim Clare submitted the defendant’s 37-page New South Wales criminal history and a four-page Queensland history as evidence his bail application should be refused.

The court heard Mr Chapman is on bail from Cairns in relation to 31 fraud charges

The court also heard Mr Chapman was supposed to report to Cairns police daily but allegedly failed to do so between May 13 and July 21.

Magistrate Bucknall said Mr Chapman was an unacceptable risk of failing to appear and denied the bail application.

The matter was adjourned until September 9.
