Marsden woman Bianca Jago fined for high-range DUI with three young kids in the car

A Logan woman driving home from drinks at a friend’s house returned an ‘outrageous’ blood alcohol reading, but it was the three kids travelling with her which shocked police.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A LOGAN mother pulled over by police at Crestmead for driving too slowly blew nearly four times the legal alcohol limit as she returned home from a friend’s house with three children in her care.

When Bianca Jago, 35, an aspiring teacher aide, refused to travel to the police station separately to the kids, aged six, eight and nine, two of which were her own, after blowing 0.182 per cent BAC, police had to arrest her using “reasonable force”.

This was because she had begun screaming expletives, including ‘f****’, and also yelling out she was “resisting arrest”.

Today, a court heard how this incredible scene brought many disturbed residents to the doors of their homes on quiet Bumstead Rd at Crestmead to watch the commotion.

The incident occurred last month on May 13, a Wednesday night, at about 8.30pm.

Police prosecutor Snr Const Mitchell said among the concerned onlookers included several young children residing in the residences.

Jago pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today to high-range drink driving, public nuisance and obstructing police.

Magistrate Clare Kelly said she thought it “extraordinary” to place the three children in her care at that level of risk, and that Jago’s actions in resisting police directions and waking up the neighbourhood “insightless and outrageous”.

The court heard Jago had a very limited traffic history with no entry since 2009 and no like offences.

She told the court that her recollection was that she told arresting police she was “not resisting arrest”, that they missed the key word, and it was submitted on behalf that she believed she had only had a few drinks.

Ms Kelly fined Jago $1000 and disqualified her from driving for the mandatory minimum period of six months. Convictions were not recorded due to her lack of history.
