A LOGAN man who allegedly bashed his wife on four occasions and threatened to “blow her head off her shoulders” has undergone two bouts of surgery since almost severing two of his fingers while threatening her with a knife.

The 31-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons to protect the identity of his children and wife, was today denied bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

He is charged with 13 offences, including four assaults occasioning bodily harm, six breaches of a domestic violence order, receiving a stolen firearm and possessing that firearm.

The court heard that after the DVO was granted in Beaudesert on February 10, this allegedly commenced a two-month reign of terror against his partner which concluded when he was finally arrested on April 24.

After the order was taken out the man moved from their Eagleby home to another address within Logan.

Police allege that the man threw his partner into a door so the jam protruded painfully into her back, punched her in the right eye, held knives to her neck, and threatened to “blow her head off her shoulders”. They claim this was not an idle threat as he allegedly possessed two guns, a rim-fire and centre-fire rifle.

Police said the attacks frequently occurred in front of their young children, one of whom was forced to call triple-0 after one of the incidents. The couple have four young children together, all aged under 10, and three older teenagers the wife had with a previous partner.

The court heard the guns, which had been stolen from a camper van previously by “unknown offenders”, were confiscated on March 27 during a search warrant at their Eagleby property which they shared prior to the period of alleged offending.

Police prosecutor Tim Wise told the court after police discovered one of the weapons in a cupboard, a four-year-old child present in the room pointed out to officers it was “dad’s rifle”.

Another alleged incident involved the man threatening his wife, who was present in court, with an eight centimetre utility knife in a caravan.

After threatening her, he allegedly stabbed the wall with the knife so violently that when the knife hit the hard outer shell of the caravan, his fingers slid down onto the blade, with the result his ring and pinky fingers were sliced down to the ligaments. He has since undergone two bouts of surgery.

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll ruled that he posed an “unacceptable risk” to his family if released. The man has been remanded in custody. The charges will be mentioned again next Wednesday.
