A Logan serial hoon has been told by a magistrate he is “not a fit person to hold a licence” after facing court again for dangerous, reckless driving.

Zane Garry Cannan, 22, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday, September 11 to 20 hooning offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving without a licence and making unnecessary smoke.

The court heard that on October 6, 2021 Cannan was recklessly doing wheelies and burnouts at an intersection in Bethania when smoke started bellowing from his tyres.

He forced fellow drivers to take evasive action and almost collided with them as he did several burnouts, the whole time filming himself on his phone for social media.

It was not the first time the Hillcrest forklift operator had faced court for hooning, he was jailed in 2020 for speeding recklessly around Brown Plains and evading police.

On that occasion Cannan was sentenced in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to 50 days imprisonment for dangerous operation of a vehicle and evasion, after screeching his tyres and forcing cars to stop, to avoid a collision.

As he faced the court again for a very similar incident, Magistrate Ron Kilner scolded the young driver and said he is not welcome on Queensland roads.

“Not only were you disqualified, your vehicle was unregistered, uninsured and was defected by a headlight and windscreen damage,” he said.

“Drivers expect to be safe on the road, you are not a fit and proper person to hold a licence.

“This is particularly serious, not only are you putting yourself at risk you are putting other drivers at risk of injury.”

Cannan’s defence lawyer Blake Fraser said the young dad was on a path of rehabilitation.

“His history demonstrates since his release there has been no further offending and he has passed drug tests,” said Mr Fraser.

“He wants to continue his rehabilitation and support his young child.”

Cannan was sentenced to five months prison, wholly suspended for 18 months.

He was also fined $700 and placed on probation for 18 months.

His drivers licence was disqualified for three years.
