An expectant mother has faced court after using her nails to tear skin from her partner’s back and hitting him with a fishing rod, then a tree branch.

The 17-week pregnant woman pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today (June 28) to two counts of breaching a domestic violence order, and two counts of breaching bail conditions.

The mother of three, in her 20s, attended a Woodridge address between February 12 and March 25 this year when she attacked her partner, a court has heard.

“The defendant began striking the aggrieved with a fishing rod,” police prosecutor Sergeant Kellie Cullen said.

“The aggrieved begged her to stop.”

The court heard the woman then used a tree branch to strike the man, before attacking his back with her nails.

“She then began scratching the aggrieved with her finger nails, breaking the skin, causing his back to bleed.”

On both March 28 and May 30, this year the Woodridge woman breached bail conditions, including failing to report to police.

The woman's lawyer, Bettina Webb, said her client was remorseful for her actions.

“It’s a toxic behaviour, but it’s something she’s learning to walk through,” Ms Web said.

Magistrate Mark Howden said the expecting mum was close to facing jail time.

“(She) is coming before the courts on a regular basis, she needs to understand she is getting close to going to jail,” Mr Howden said.

“Which is not good as you have a child and are expecting another.”

The 23-year-old woman was convicted and sentenced to 18 months probation, with instructions to partake in counselling and medical psychiatric treatment.
