A Logan father has faced court after he deliberately drove at police, crashing a car, before attempting to run from the scene.
Woodridge’s Jay Tyler West, 27, was caught driving at police on the corner of Calam Rd and Compton Rd in Sunnybank Hills on December 26, 2022.
“He drove a vehicle at police and continued to drive off and evade police,” Senior Sergeant Cody Collins told Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
“He’s continued to place other road users and police at risk and must be held accountable.
“He has a previous history of drink driving as well as the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.”
His lawyer, Shiven Reddy, said his client was heavily intoxicated when he drove at police and continued to evade them on foot.
“Drugs destroy relationships, property, lives, Mr West has been impacted by the use of drugs,” Mr Reddy said.
“He says he has no memory of the offending because of his levels of intoxication.”
Magistrate Michael Holohan said West’s actions on Boxing Day put lives at risk.
“You are endangering this community, endangering police and it will not be tolerated,” Mr Holohan said.
“This behaviour is not tolerated by the community.
“You are lucky that no one else was injured that day, police or other road users.
“On Boxing Day last year, the police had enough to deal with.”
West was also charged with Unlawful use of a vehicle, five stealing offences, possessing dangerous drugs, using a vehicle with modified registration plates and failing to comply with the duties of someone involved in a crash.
He pleaded guilty to all charged, receiving a head sentence of 28 months’ imprisonment with a parole eligibility date of October 4, 2023.
He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
All convictions were recorded.
