Voters out early in Forde, Rankin as pre-polling starts

Political pundits have got one thing correct. Lots of people are casting their votes before election day on May 19.

Pre-polling starts in Forde

CANDIDATES of all different parties and political persuasions were on the hustings first thing Monday morning as pre-polling booths opened across the state.

Candidates for Forde, the sitting member Bert van Manen (LNP) and Des Hardman (ALP) were both spotted in Beenleigh.

Mr Hardman said he was ready for the next 17 days of campaigning and Mr van Manen said he knew it would be tough but was used to fighting to win in the marginal seat.

There are six candidates for the seat of Forde, which Mr van Manen holds with a slim 0.6 per cent margin.

They are listed on the ballot as follows: Ian Bowron from Pauline Hanson’s One Nation; The Greens Kirsty Petersen; United Australia Party’s Paul Creighton; Mr van Manen from the Liberal National Party of Queensland; Australian Labor Party’s Des Hardman and Les Innes from the Fraser Anning Conservative National Party.

For those registered in the Forde electorate, there are six places to cast a pre-poll vote. Five of them are in Logan and are listed here.

IN THE Labor-held seat of Rankin, sitting MP Jim Chalmers was also spotted on the hustings at Logan Central.

Mr Chalmers holds his seat with a solid 11 per cent margin.

There are eight candidates contesting the seat of Rankin.
