Regents Park man Vince Peneueta was remanded in custody on Monday (June 21) for another shot at bail on Tuesday (June 22) in Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

His attempt at bail on Tuesday was successful and he is next scheduled to appear before court on July 19.

On Monday, a heavily tattooed Peneueta faced single charges of assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful use of a vehicle and wilful damage.

Police will allege the defendant was with a female friend in her car when she left the vehicle during an argument.

Peneueta followed the highly distressed alleged victim, grabbed and dragged toward her vehicle before dropping her onto the ground and driving off, according to police.

Police prosecutor Tahlia Boettcher said the serious charges followed a three-page criminal history featuring like offences.

Defence solicitor Raquel Brehmer said her client was in fact trying to console the alleged victim, but could not explain why he (allegedly) stole her car.

“I am instructed that he bear-hugged her … he instructs that he had her around the shoulders as he was trying to take her to the car,” Ms Brehmer said.

“He has (allegedly) let go and she has fallen to the ground.

“He instructs me that she was crying hysterically during this whole (alleged) incident.

“He was ultimately trying to console her.

“In terms of why he left in the car, I can’t provide any explanation for that.”

The defence submitted their client would live with his brother should he be granted bail release, however magistrate Pamela Dowse had bad news.

“He is not welcome back there apparently,” Ms Dowse said.

“His brother is a bit sick of him too.”

Peneueta was remanded to custody for the second bail hearing on Tuesday (June 22) so he could enquire with other family members about accommodation.
