A Logan duo have been jailed after a brutal bashing at a 7-Eleven, which lasted four minutes while onlookers watched and did nothing.

Viliami Vaipulu, 24, and Suliasi Omani, 25 pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on November 4 to robbery in company with personal violence.

The court heard that on July 29, 2021 Vaipulu, a boilermaker, and Ormani, a removalist, bashed and robbed a 35-year-old man at a 7-Eleven in Logan Central at 4pm.

The court played a video of the incident, which showed the two men follow the victim from inside the store to his car.

The court heard the pair said the victim owed them money and to “hop in the car and have a talk”.

Vaipulu and Ormani then brutally assaulted the man, punching him several times and putting him in a headlock before stealing his phone.

The victim was left with a haemorrhage and bleeding in one eye.

In the four minutes of violence, customers walked past the car but nobody intervened or offered assistance, which shocked Judge Craig Chowdhury.

“It is extraordinary that nobody came to his aid,” he said.

“It was a brazen act of violence, a sustained and prolonged attack. They just bashed this guy.

“The complainant was left completely vulnerable to this attack and the fact he wasn’t badly injured is a miracle.

“A punch of only moderate force can kill someone.”

Mr Chowdhury said the people of Queensland want senseless acts of violence punished.

“The community want judges like me to throw the book at you,” he said.

Vaipulu was sentenced to three and a half years in prison with immediate parole eligibility after serving 457 days in pre-sentence custody.

Ormani was sentenced to three years in prison and will have to serve nine months of actual custody.
