A Logan scaffolder who accompanied a jealous friend to bash his ex-wife’s new lover and finished the attack by hitting him with a guitar has been jailed.

Angus Clay Ashford, 33, who is from far north Queensland but works in Logan, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on November 4 to burglary in company, assault occasioning bodily harm in company and common assault.

The court heard that on October 3, 2021 Ashford drove with his friend to his friend’s ex-wife house to confront her about a new partner.

When they arrived, they said they were going to smash his face in and hurled abuse at the couple.

“F**k you dog c**t, you piece of shit,” said the co-accused.

Once inside the co-accused punched the new 30-year-old partner 20 times in the head while Ashford held the woman’s arms and ankles down to stop her intervening.

On the way out of the room, Ashford picked up a guitar and smashed it against the leg of the victim.

The court heard the victim had bruising on his face, a fracture on his finger, a nasal fracture and lacerations.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said the consequences of the attack could have been much more severe.

“You’re lucky he wasn’t killed,” he said.

“People are entitled to feel safe in their own home without violent thugs coming in and assaulting them.”

Ashford was sentenced to two months in prison, to serve a five month term of actual imprisonment.
