Two 14-year-olds from Logan have been charged after allegedly breaking into a property in Brisbane’s southside over the weekend, waking the owners just in time for them to “watch from their window as their car was being driven down their driveway”.

Police say the alleged theft occurred about 2.30am on Friday at a residential address at Dixon St, Sunnybank.

“Residents of the house were woken by noises only to discover their house had been broken into and keys to their vehicle stolen,” Upper Mt Gravatt Police Station OIC Snr Sgt Murray Crone said.

“The victims watched from their window as their silver Hyundai i30 was being driven from their driveway.

A mobile phone and wallet was also allegedly stolen from the property.

Later that same day, the alleged victim’s mobile phone was located on Winchester Rd, Alexandra Hills with other items of property, which provided police a lead for investigators to a possible suspect.

Further inquiries by police revealed the victim’s motor vehicle was involved in a series of offences including thefts of petrol from service stations at Park Ridge, Crestmead and Greenbank over the weekend.

The stolen vehicle was also sighted by police or involved in other stealing offences at Regents Park, Bundall, and Boronia Heights before being eventually located at Marsden yesterday afternoon.

A 14-year-old boy from Crestmead and 14-year-old girl from Browns Plains have been charged with burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The teenage boy has also been charged with three counts of stealing and one count of receiving tainted property.

Both are expected to appear before the Beenleigh Children’s Court at a later date.
