A man was shot in the middle of the night outside a popular Logan gym and the person police believe was responsible has been sent to the Supreme Court, charged with attempted murder.
On June 10, 2021 Thomas John Rae allegedly shot Zachary Mohammad outside Lifestyle Fitness Centre in Springwood at 2am.
The 21-year-old gunshot victim was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital and had injuries to his back and abdomen.
Mr Rae was arrested by police on June 19 after police discovered CCTV footage linking him to the crime scene.
Police allege they found two guns at Mr Rae’s house and DNA evidence which linked him to the shooting as well.
He has been remanded in custody since June, 2021 and appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 24 as his matters were committed to the Supreme Court.
The 26-year-old Berrinba man was charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Mr Rae’s defence barrister Thomas Godbolt cross examined an investigating detective over whether Mr Rae could be positively identified by police.
“The footage is not very clear and you can’t make out Mr Raw’s face clearly from the video alone,” said Mr Godbolt.
Magistrate Patrina Clohessy listed the attempted murder charge for a trial in Brisbane Supreme Court at a future date.
The lesser summary charges of possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a motor vehicle were listed for mention in Beenleigh Magistrates Court June 18, 2024.
