The trainer of Logan boxer Skye Nicolson expects her to qualify for the Olympic Games via the world titles next week.

If she misses that boat, Nicolson has the safety net of another qualifying event in Paris during March, but trainer Wayne Tolton did not expect she would need the second chance tournament in Paris to make the Olympics.

“She is in great form,’’ he said. “She is extremely fit and in extremely good form.

“She is on weight and our preparation is great.

“I am happy with where she is at this stage.’’

Tolton, who trains Nicholson out of the Jamie Nicolson Memorial Gym at Yatala – a facility named in honour of Skye’s late brother – said Nicolson was used to the big stage. He said he had no concerns about her competing in China where the stakes were high and did not expect that to derail her mentally.

NICOLSON VISITS HER OLD SCHOOL

“She has competed all around the world.,’’ he said.

“In 2018, she was a Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

“She has competed at world championships on six occasions, so she is very experienced at these events.’’

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Skye Nicolson visited her old school with Our Lady's College students Erin Horan and Ruby Tenorio.

Nicolson famously won a gold medal during a brutal boxing match at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

She told the Albert & Logan News last year winning that medal had fortified her confidence in pursuit of an Olympic Games dream.

The St Joseph’s Beenleigh past student said as a result of her Commonwealth Games success, her dream was now not merely to become an Olympian in Tokyo, but to become an Olympic gold medallist.

“The Olympics — that has always been my dream,’’ said Nicolson, who narrowly missed the Rio Olympic boxing team.

“(But) It is not just about getting to the Olympics, for me it is about winning it.’’
