Commonwealth Games gold medal boxing hero Skye Nicolson will march toward the 2020 Olympic Games with renewed vigour and confidence following her boxing deeds on the Gold Coast in April.

Commonwealth Games gold medal boxing hero Skye Nicolson will march toward the 2020 Olympic Games with renewed vigour and confidence following her boxing deeds on the Gold Coast in April.

Nicolson, who will compete at the world titles starting in New Delhi on November 15, captivated a nation with gold medal winning performance in a bloody decider the Games.

The St Joesph’s Beenleigh past student said as a result her dream was now not to merely to become an Olympian in Tokyo, but to become an Olympic gold medallist.

“The Olympic dream — that has always been my dream,’’ said Nicolson, who narrowly missed the Rio Olympic boxing team.

“(But) It is not just about getting to the Olympics, for me it is about winning it.

“These Commonwealth Games have been a massive steeping stone for me in that direction.

“I have proved to Australia, to the Commonwealth what I am capable of on the world stage.

“I am really excited to so case my skills.’’

Nicolson said she would not previously have spoken with such confidence about chasing an Olympic gold medal, but her Commonwealth Games achievement had spurred her on.

“Being an Olympian is a beautiful achievement in itself and I would never, ever talk down on that,’’ she said.

“But my goals are to do one better than that (just making the Games team) again.

“And I feel the Commonwealth Games really opened my mind as to just how awesome that would be to do.’’

She said her Commonwealth Games achievement was when “years of hard work paid off’’.

“Everything happened so fast.

“It was a massive turning point for me in terms of finally seeing the results I have been striving for so many years.

“I think it really helped me see how far I can go in boxing and when I really push those limits, what I am really capable of.’’

She said he was “constantly learning, constantly adapting’’.

“The day I stop learning is the day I should not do boxing any more.’’

“And I love that, that my boxing is constantly evolving.’’
