Commonwealth Games gold medallist Skye Nicolson visited her old secondary school, Our Lady’s College, Annerley, last week.
Proudly wearing her Australian tracksuit with her gold medal draped around her neck, Nicolson told captivated students about her journey to the top of the Commonwealth sporting tree and how the college had contributed to making her the person she was today.
“It is a beautiful school,’’ Nicolson said.
“It was a positive change I really enjoyed,’’ said Nicolson, who would commute daily from Logan to Annerley.
She said there was a period in her life when she felt going to school “did not really matter” but the atmosphere at Our Lady’s College helped change her attitude.
“Everyone at school was committed to their studies and for me school was important again,’’ she said.
“I made life long friends that I still see them now.
“I tell everyone I meet that I am a past student of here. I am a very proud Our Lady’s past student.’’
Nicolson, who attended Our Lady’s in years 10, 11 and 12, fondly recalled breaking the college 400m record. “I don’t know whether it still stands or not,’’ Nicolson smiled.
“That was one of my favourite memories.’’
