Shane Lindsay Archer: Accused arsonist in court for Beaudesert school fire

The man accused of setting fire to a southside college at the weekend has faced court.

An accused arsonist from Beaudesert has fronted court after allegedly starting a suspicious building fire at McAuley College on the weekend.

Beaudesert man Shane Lindsay Archer, 42, was mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday and charged with arson (structure or building).

Police will allege Mr Archer is responsible for a suspicious building fire that occurred at McAuley College in Beaudesert on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the school on Oakland Way around 7am where they found the science block was on fire.

A crime scene was declared and police said the fire was being treated as suspicious.

Mr Archer’s lawyer told the court her client was being held in the isolation unit at Southport on Monday and made no application for bail.

His matters were adjourned to May 17.
