The court heard police approached Purcell and told him he was under arrest before he fled along Wembley Rd, Logan Central about 1.30pm on February 9.

A foot chase ensued and he was eventually arrested a short distance later.

He was found in possession of a black-handled folding knife in his hand and attempted to discard it as police wrestled him to the ground.

Police also busted him with 1.7g of cannabis in Slacks Creek on May 5.

The court heard he also breached his bail by failing to report to police seven times between April 21-30 in 2020 and 11 times between May 1-15 the same year.

Defence solicitor Greg Lutvey said his client was young and had two children.

Magistrate Louise Shepard sentenced him to 18 months probation.

He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of unpaid graffiti removal.

No convictions recorded.
