A former Logan high school teacher has faced court for shockingly pushing and stealing from his own mother.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday, July 25 that 44-year-old Scott Lennox worked as a high school teacher for 17 years.

The court heard he most recently taught at Groves Christian College in Kingston, Logan and had done relief teaching at several schools.

Lennox retired from teaching three years ago.

On May 3 at his Logan home, Lennox yelled at his mother and demanded $100 from her.

The court heard during the argument, he snatched his 83-year-old mother’s car keys out of her hand and pushed her five teams in the shoulders and head.

They went outside and he pushed her another five times in the head.

Lennox, from Beenleigh, then stormed out while pushing the victim down in the process.

He pleaded guilty to serious assault of a person over 60 (domestic violence offence) for the attack.

The victim had injuries to her shoulder and hip.

Defence lawyer Zane Chapman said his client’s behaviour was disgusting and Lennox was extremely remorseful.

Magistrate Terry Duroux scorned Lennox’s behaviour towards his own family.

“For heck’s sake sir, it’s your mum,” he said.

“This is entirely unacceptable and this type of behaviour is unfortunately very prevalent in the Logan area.”

Lennox was sentenced to 12 months prison with an immediate parole release date.

He had already served 83 days of pre-sentence custody.
