A Logan landscaper bashed his mother-in-law outside her home after she had spent the afternoon drinking at an RSL, causing her fear and panic attacks.

A Logan landscaper bashed his mother-in-law outside her home after she had spent the afternoon drinking at an RSL, causing her fear and panic attacks.

Scott Gregory Blinco pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on Friday, August 25 to assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard the 37-year-old landscaper confronted his 64-year-old mother-in-law outside her home in Logan Village on July 9, 2021.

She had been drinking at the Logan Village RSL that day with friends before returning home.

Logan Village man Blinco told her to get off the property and leave.

He then ran towards her and pushed her to the ground, before pushing her a further three times.

Blinco also kicked in the doors of her car, causing $4000 damage.

He has entered a plea of guilty to a charge of wilful damage for that offence and will be sentenced in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court next month.

The court heard the mother-in-law suffered a lumbar disc protrusion, bleeding finger and had severe back injuries from the attack.

In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, she said the attack caused panic attacks and fear in her daily life.

“I was in shock it could happen to me at my age and I am still fearful,” she said.

“I get panic attacks daily and worry I won’t make it through the day.

“I disguised my appearance and changed my car number plates to avoid being seen.”

Judge Craig Chowdhury acknowledged the behaviour was out of character for Blinco.

“Whatever grievance was going on there with the victim, there was no justification for your attack,” he said.

“It clearly had an adverse impact on the victim.”

Blinco was sentenced to a 12 month probation order and no conviction was recorded.
