A Logan man has lashed out at his father, bashing him, after discovering his parents were getting a divorce.

Munruben man Callan Lance Tandy, 33, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on January 9, to one count of assaults occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence offence) and one count of contravening a Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVO).

The court heard Tandy was living with his parents at their Munruben home on January 6, when he learnt of their plans to divorce.

He left the property angrily before returning with liquor, the court heard.

“He returned with premixed alcohol, one of the conditions is that he doesn’t drink at the house,” Senior Constable Dave Shelton said.

“He became verbally abusive to the person (his mother) and the aggrieved (his father).

“He called them f**king c***s, inbred.”

The court heard Tandy continued to verbally abuse his parents and drink alcohol, before leaving the house to go to a shed on the property.

His mother and father called the police before approaching their son at the shed, asking him to leave, the court heard.

“The defendant yelled, ‘I’m going to get you c***’ and punched the victim in the right side of the face before ending up in a wrestle falling on the floor,” Constable Shelton said.

“He put (his father) in a headlock, both parties have then let go and walked out the front of the property where the victim had followed him.

“He said again, ‘I’m going to kill you c***’ before punching him again.”

Tandy’s lawyer, Ms Bremmer, said her client lost control.

“His parents have informed him that they were getting a divorce and he found it very confronting and stressful,” Ms Bremmer said.

“His father blames my client for the divorce and that escalated the situation further.

“Not to blame the victim but my client was trying to do the right thing and trying to stay away.

“But my client has regrettably exploded.

“He’s very apologetic for his actions.”

Magistrate Terry Duroux said Tandy’s actions were violent.

“There is actual violence involved which greatly concerns me,” Mr Duroux said.

“This type of behaviour simply can’t be tolerated.

“You both need space by the sounds of it and you need to stay away.”

Tandy was convicted and sentenced to four months jail for the assault occasioning bodily harm and six months for contravening the DVO.

Convictions were recorded.

“I will do the best I can,” the defendant said.

“I will be on my best behaviour.”
