Police are scouring a southside street after tracing a car they believe could hold vital clues about the shooting of a teen earlier this week.

Police were in the usually quiet Princess St in Marsden on Thursday morning looking for clues, and have combed through the car, found parked on the roadside.

Officers in the area were unable to give further details as the car will form part of the investigation into the shooting in the chest of a 17-year-old boy who is in intensive care in Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable but critical condition.

The tragedy happened on Wednesday just after 1am at Waterford West, about 2km from where the car was found this morning.

Yesterday, a home in Waterford West was also declared a crime scene.

Neighbours reported hearing two loud noises about 1.10am.

“I heard two loud bangs,” one neighbour said.

“One bang was just after 1am.”

It is understood shots came from a house in Waterford West — where it is believed a family lived.

“There are babies there and a lot of kids aged over 16,” another neighbour said.

“They have lived there longer than me and I’ve lived here 10 years.

“They usually sit outside and they’re loud, they play music and have drinks.

“They have a lot of parties.”

An occupant of the home, believed to be a member of the family, was observed outside the property speaking to police.

Police said they would not be let into the home for some time.

Earlier, Logan police investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old boy overnight believe it was not a “random incident”.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brendan Blyth addressed media at Logan Police Station this afternoon, revealing investigators believed the victim knew the shooter and may have been with friends at the time.

He confirmed police would be speaking with a number of associates aged about 17-19.

“A lot of the associates are of a very similar age, around the 17, 18, 19-year-old mark,” he said.

“A lot of people of various ages but all quite young.”

The information comes after the teen was brought to Logan hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest in the early hours of this morning.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Blyth said police believed the 17-year-old was shot by someone known to him, before friends and family took him to Logan Hospital.

“We do believe that the gunshot wound was inflicted by another person,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Blyth said.

“I don’t believe this was a random incident. I do believe the associates involved in this particular investigation are known to each other.

“We believe that it certainly occurred within the Logan district and that is with his associates between those hours of midnight and 2am.”

The 17-year-old boy is currently in a critical but stable condition at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Police are looking for members of the public to come forward with any information to help investigations.

“Any information at all in relation to this incident would be appreciated,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brendan Blyth said.

“Dashcam, CCTV, any of that information may have something we need and would prove very helpful in the investigation.”
