A Logan mechanic has faced court for assaulting his partner in an “excessive’’ way during an argument in their home.

Luke Samual Meiers, 37, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on June 7 to one count of common assault (domestic violence offence).

The court heard that on August 27, 2022 in Shailer Park, Meiers and his partner were having an argument at home.

His partner went to have a shower and when she got out Meiers grabbed her arm forcefully, which was deemed excessive.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Cochrane said Meiers had no criminal history and a fine was within range.

“The defendant and the complainant were in a personal relationship at the time of the assault,” he said.

“He was interviewed at Springwood Police Station in September of 2023, prosecution submits a fine and no conviction be recorded.”

The court heard Meiers had been a mechanic for 18 years and was required to undergo police checks which would be affected by the recording of a conviction.

Magistrate Terry Duroux said the matter was originally listed for a hearing but was negotiated to a sentence before the court.

“You’ve negotiated the matter today, which I appreciate,” he said.

“Any domestic violence offence is considered serious by the court but common assault is at the lower end of seriousness.”

Meiers was fined $400 and no conviction was recorded.
