A Logan truck driver who abused his nine-year-old stepdaughter 30 times, has been jailed for more than five years for ‘heinous’ acts.

Beenleigh District Court heard on Thursday that the father in his 40s, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, sexually abused his nine-year-old stepdaughter 30 times in 2015.

The victim’s mother read a powerful victim impact statement to the court where she detailed the destructive damage the man’s abuse had on her daughter and the family.

“I am haunted. Every day I blame myself for letting you into my life and home,” she said.

“Words cannot describe the devastating effect you have had on this family. You were somebody she trusted, looked to as her father and you have left her with a lifetime of mental struggles.”

The victim’s mother said her daughter’s childhood had been ruined.

“I still remember the first time she called you daddy. Now I can no longer look at photos of my precious daughter.

“My daughter deserves justice for this heinous behaviour.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child under 12, indecent treatment and rape.

The court heard the offending occurred 30 times and he bribed her with desserts and ice creams to stay quiet.

The abuse became known to police when the man volunteered the information to them.

He told police he didn’t know why he did it and was “f----d in the head”.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said sexual abuse of children was unnatural and needed to be punished by the courts.

“The sexual abuse of children has been known to be wrong for centuries,” he said.

“The damage is horrific.

“She will never forget what you did to her and the absolute trauma you have caused.

“This sort of offending happens far too often and I recently sentenced a man to 14 years for similar behaviour.”

The man was jailed for five and a half years and will be eligible for parole on December 19, 2024.

He will also be on the sex offenders registry for five years.
