A Logan man’s sordid plan to exact revenge on a pregnant sex worker who dumped him backfired when the theft of a necklace turned into a violent home invasion involving two other women.

Beenleigh District Court heard on August 3 that Samnang Nov planned to get revenge on a sex worker who stopped seeing him after unwanted advances.

Nov, 34, enlisted the help of Crystal-Gay Maizey, 38, and Jessica Lock, 35, to retrieve a necklace Nov had given to the woman as a present.

The court heard the sex worker had cancelled all future plans to see Nov because she was scared of his behaviour.

Nov began sending the woman abusive and threatening text messages with disturbing detail.

One of the text messages read “I want to cut my head off and feed it to your dog”, heard the court.

Nov, Maizey and Lock booked a fake appointment with the victim on August 15, 2021 where they pretended to be a new client.

They then forced their way into her Loganholme house, which she was working from, assaulted and threatened her.

Maizey threatened to cut the woman’s fingers off and stole her two mobile phones.

They then ripped the necklace off the woman and injured her fingers by slamming the door on her hands.

The victim was pregnant at the time of the attack and suffered bruises and cuts during the scuffle.

Prosecutor Aden Tranent said the victim had a right to feel safe in her home and operate her business as a sex worker safely.

“People have a right to feel safe in their own home,” he said.

“She was just doing her job as a worker and was not expecting to be ambushed.”

In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, she said she did not feel safe in her own home anymore and felt scared.

The trio pleaded guilty to burglary, robbery in company with violence, and assault occasioning bodily harm in company.

Lock was sentenced to three years prison, to be suspended after serving 12 months and Maizey was sentenced to three and a half years prison with a parole eligibility date of October 24, 2023.

Nov was sentenced to 18 months prison, to be suspended after serving four months actual custody, with an operational period of 18 months.

The sentence for Nov comes days after a chorus of sex workers called for change around regulations restricting other people from being home while a sex worker is working.
