A Logan dad’s disgraceful sexual abuse of his daughter for two months, has been revealed in court, as the man was jailed.

Beenleigh District Court heard on Monday, July 24 that the Logan man molested his then 15-year-old daughter.

The court heard that for two months the man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, followed her into her bedroom at night and would touch her breasts.

She told police her father abused her for 10 to 20 minutes at a time and she would look up at the ceiling, hoping it would end.

In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, she said over time she realised the abuse affected her self-esteem and had a profound negative impact on her wellbeing.

Crown prosecutor Samantha O’Rourke highlighted the violation of trust by the defendant.

“It was an egregious breach of trust by a father against his own daughter,” she said.

The father pleaded guilty to maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child under 16, indecent treatment of a child under 16 and sexual assault.

The court heard the Logan man experienced health problems since the offending and was deeply remorseful for his behaviour.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said this type of offending happened far too frequently.

“It was a shocking breach of trust where a man molested his own daughter,” he said.

“It wasn’t a one-off and you should have been looking after her, helping her become a well-adjusted lady.”

He was sentenced to two years prison, to be suspended after serving four months of actual jail.
