A teen girl has bravely spoken of her disturbing three-month long sexual relationship with a Logan man, including one traumatic experience, as her adult ex-boyfriend faced a lengthy stint behind bars.

Beenleigh District Court heard on Thursday, July 27 that Bhavjinder Singh Bains, 23 was in a sexual relationship with an underage girl for three months.

The court heard they started talking over social media app Snapchat and then began a secret relationship.

They would hang out at Bains’ house and had unprotected sex several times over three months.

She became pregnant and was threatened by Bains to terminate the pregnancy or he would “make her life a living hell”.

In a powerful victim impact statement read to the court, she said the relationship with the defendant and her pregnancy ruined her youth.

“I would throw up every night. I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be a part of the family and I lost my childhood,” she said.

“My teen life was stripped away and I couldn’t enjoy school.

“When he found out I was pregnant he threatened me and I started to act different, I changed my relationship with my family.

“I’m still recovering from the trauma.”

Bains, from Flagstone, pleaded guilty to maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child under 16.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said although the relationship was not forced, Bains should have shown more responsibility.

“The reality is Bains was the adult,” he said.

“It was absolutely illegal to begin with and absolutely foolish to engage in sexual conduct without a condom.

“I don’t know how nobody noticed with all the time you were spending together.”

Judge Chowdhury said Bains exploited the victim and the courts needed to send a message to society.

“The law of consent is there for a reason.

“You knew what you were doing was wrong and you took advantage.”

Bains was sentenced to three years prison, to serve four months of actual custody.

Once he is released, his prison sentence will be suspended for an operational period of three years.
