A Logan woman who drunkenly flipped her car with three young children inside then savagely attacked a female cop, punching and spitting on her, has been jailed.

Keryn Maree Wylie, 39, from Marsden pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicated substance and three counts of serious assault of a police officer.

Beenleigh District Court heard on Wednesday, July 26 that neighbours alerted police to a loud disturbance involving screaming at Wylie’s home in Marsden.

The court heard Wylie then took off in her car while intoxicated and crashed badly in Edens Landing on November 21, 2021.

She had three children inside the car, unrestrained by seatbelts, and drove through a garden, hit two fences and became airborne.

The court heard neighbouring witnesses said she was driving too fast for a suburban street and fluid began leaking from her car after the crash.

A female off duty police officer helped at the scene and Wylie responded aggressively by slapping her arm then punching her three times in the head.

She also grabbed the officer’s shirt and twisted it before spitting in her face multiple times and spitting at another man.

Wylie then started abusing the officer and threatening her.

“You cop dog, you’re off duty you have no power copper’ dog,” she said according to the court.

“I know where you live and I’m going to finish you off.”

Wylie was arrested by police and returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.161 per cent.

The court heard the three children did not witness the attack on the officer.

In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, the off duty officer said she was trying to help the community and sustained significant injuries.

“I put myself back on duty to help people in need,” she said.

“I had cuts, bruises and had to get tested for diseases. I had to wait weeks for the results which affected my personal life.”

Judge Deborah Holiday said Wylie’s behaviour was very concerning.

“You put yourself, [the] children’s lives and the community at danger,” she said.

“You are lucky nobody was seriously hurt.”

Wylie was sentenced to three years in prison, to serve six months of actual custody.

She had already served two months of pre-sentence custody and will be released on parole on January 25, 2024.
