A man has been jailed after trying to run a woman and her good samaritans, who were lucky to escape with their life, over in a road rage attack in Brisbane’s south.

Logan Central man, Jack Softley, 20, pleaded guilty in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today to 31 charges, including obstructing police officers, dangerous driving and fraud.

The court heard that on February 9, distressing footage from a dash camera in a parked car showed Softley attempting to drive over a woman in Runcorn.

The defendant, who appeared in court via video link, was seen arguing with a woman known to him before attempting to drive the car into her.

The woman allegedly defended herself by throwing bricks into the windshield of the car as Mr Softley made three attempts to run her over before bystanders intervened, the court also heard.

The court was also told Mr Softley then attempted to run over the bystanders, who came to the victim’s rescue.

“She's managed to avoid him and the people have come to assist her, he’s driven his vehicle up the footpath and attempted to hit them,” Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Kay, said.

“It was an extreme offence and he is an extreme danger to the community.”

Less than a day later, Mr Softley was tracked by Polair and police after reports of dangerous driving, where he was seen driving head-on into oncoming traffic and failing to stop at red lights in Slacks Creek.

The court heard police intercepted him at a dead-end street, where Mr Softley mounted a kerb to evade police.

The court heard Mr Softley was also caught in possession of stolen items, including a wallet, car keys and $1500 cash in Logan Central in January, the court was told.

It was alleged, the defendant stole the items from a man's house before driving a stolen vehicle to cash converters, where he exchanged $1500 of stolen cash for jewellery.

Mr Softley’s remaining 27 charges from December, 2020 to February, 2022 include stealing a tank of fuel, possession of drugs, failing to properly dispose of a syringe and failing to appear in court on multiple occasions.

Magistrate Louise Shepherd said Mr Softley’s charges, especially in relation to his reckless driving, were serious.

“It is a serious example of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,” she said.

“You used your vehicle as a weapon, thankfully, they were all able to get out of the way and avoid harm.”

Mr Softley’s lawyer said his client regretted his actions.

“My client is remorseful for his actions and he wants to start enjoying life again,” he said.

Mr Softley was convicted and received 18 months imprisonment for dangerous driving and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He also received nine months imprisonment for unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and three months imprisonment for stealing, receiving tainted property and fraud.

Mr Softley also received an additional 55 days imprisonment for evading police officers and was disqualified from driving for three months.
