Boronia Heights man Kevin Douglas Sinclair, 58, pleads guilty for drug possession

A man’s night has turned from bad to worse after he was arrested for drug possession just hours after allegedly being attacked with a machete in a home invasion south of Brisbane.

A man has been jailed after his night turned from bad to worse when police found drugs in his home south of Brisbane, just hours after he was allegedly sliced with a machete in a terrifying home invasion.

Boronia Heights resident, Kevin Douglas Sinclair, 58, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today to several charges including possession of a large quantity of dangerous drugs and possessing a weapon.

The court heard police were called to Mr Sinclair’s address on October 14, where they discovered 1.43kg of cannabis in his home along with three clip-sealed bags of psilocybin, as well as a scale, grinder and a taser weapon in the property.

Mr Sinclair’s lawyer told the court his client had been a victim of a home invasion the same day before police arrived to find the drugs.

“He (Mr Sinclair) was having dinner with his children when a man stormed the property with a machete demanding money,” Mr Stricklen said.

“My client was hospitalised, lost feeling in his arm and suffered severe lacerations.”

The court heard Mr Sinclair had been a frequent user of dangerous drugs since he was 20-years-old due to mental health issues.

“Your 58 years of age, if you are looking at engaging in a psychologist you should have done it a long time ago, with respect,” Magistrate Terry Duroux said.

“The bottom line is, it is an offence to be in possession of it, especially the large amount.”

Mr Sinclair was convicted and received a sentence of six months imprisonment for possessing dangerous drugs of a large quantity, suspended for 12 months.

He also received two months imprisonment for possession of dangerous drugs and a further one month for possessing a weapon.
