A young man, who laughed while he destroyed a disability care bus in a drunken attack, has been sentenced after facing court.
Kallangur resident, Brodie James DeWinter, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of wilful damage in the Pine Rivers Magistrate Court on May 6.
Police alleged the 24-year-old was drinking with a group of friends at a North Lakes pub, when the attack unfolded.
The court heard the group of men were laughing while they broke the side mirror off the vehicle in the car park of the pub.
According to police, Mr DeWinter continued to kick the mirror across the ground before trying to clean his finger prints off it.
The damage was reported to police where Mr DeWinter was identified through CCTV footage.
Mr DeWinter’s lawyer said his client was sorry for his actions.
“My client is remorseful for his actions and has offered to pay for the repairs after he found out what the vehicle was used for,” he said.
The court was also told the North Lakes disability support centre has been without a bus for a week, as they had difficulty with repairing the damage.
“It had inconvenienced people and obviously the community,” Magistrate Melanie Ho said.
“(This was) more good luck than good management given other people have rectified the damage.”
Mr DeWinter was convicted and fined $750.
