“I got the win via a round seven KO,’’ said a delighted Dessaix.

He said he was proud of his effort. “From where I am now, attaining the Australian title and being such a prestigious title held by many previous champions, this was an honour.’’

The victory continued his rise up the ranks which gained momentum last year when he won two titles on one night after a dramatic second round knock out of Peter Ricketts.

The Groves Christian College old boy claimed the WBA Oceania light heavyweight title and also the IBF International light heavyweight title.

He then defended his WBA Oceania title last November, beating Steve Lovett.

“Winning this title is just the stepping stone I need right now in my career too propel me back onto the world stage,’’ he said.
