SPRINGWOOD boxer Reagan Dessaix has captured two titles after a dramatic second round knock out of Peter Ricketts at Tweed Heads on Saturday.

The personal trainer, 22, claimed the WBA Oceania light heavyweight title and the IBF International light heavyweight title.

The performance continued a stellar year for Dessaix after taking the IBF Pan Pacific light heavyweight 79.3kg crown in March.

“I woke up Monday morning on top of the world,’’ the Logan born and breed boxer said.

His coach Lincoln Hudson had primed Dessaix for the fight of his career against an opponent who had never been stopped before on his way to a 15-2 win-loss record.

“He said this bloke will be five times harder than the Japanese (Shintaro Matsumoto).

“I said to him I will lift my game five times more than the last fight to make sure I get the job done.’’

But even Dessaix did not anticipate ending the fight in the second round.

“I felt great from the start and caught him flush in round two with a right uppercut,’’ Dessaix said.

“It took two or three seconds and he went backwards

“Even when I hit him with the right upper cut, it got me by surprise (that he went to ground).

“I did not know what I had hit him with until the coach told me afterwards.

“It is the first time I have seen that (such a delay between a blow and an opponent stumbling).

“He came to fight and win and I caught him clean.

“I felt I really good on the night.

“I took my time and felt him out.

“I was settled in to pace myself and thought I would have to break him down across the rounds

“To get him in round two, I was stoked.’’
