Police allege Godfrey forced his way into an address at Holmview looking for his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend on July 10, 2020.

Following an altercation, Godfrey chased after her boyfriend with a hammer to the laundry where his wheelchair-bound paraplegic mother had been at the time.

The woman reached up to grab Godfrey’s hammer in an attempt to unarm him, but during the struggle, she was pulled out of her wheelchair and onto the ground.

The court heard Godfrey was convicted for related charges in district court in February, including wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment with an immediate parole eligibility date.

The 576 days he spent on remand was also declared time served.

For the fresh common assault charge, he was convicted and not further punished.
