A man’s disturbing attack with a blowtorch, hammer and knife has been denounced by a judge as “disgusting and appalling’’.

Beenleigh District Court heard on Wednesday that Leslie Stephen Erik Siganto, 40, met a man and attacked him brutally for no reason.

The victim, 30, had consumed party drug GHB at an Upper Coomera property and then had a pocket knife thrown at him by Siganto who also abused him, calling him a “dog’’.

During the attack on August 4, 2021, Siganto put a blowtorch against the man’s penis and face, causing a burn to his eye.

The victim threatened to phone police but that prompted Siganto to further threaten him.

“If I ever hear you called the police you are going to know about it,” he said.

“I’m going to shoot you.”

Before using the blowtorch, Siganto threw a lit cigarette at the man and smashed his knee with a hammer.

He also made the victim stand up, pull his pants down and threatened to put an arrow or bullet in his knee.

He then forced the victim into a car and drove him back to Siganto’s house, where he used the blowtorch as a weapon.

The court heard Siganto also forced the man on to a bed and carved letters into his skin with a knife.

During the attack, he also stole the man’s phone, watch and money.

The court heard the attack was unprovoked.

Siganto pleaded guilty to seven counts of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company, one count of armed robbery in company and deprivation of liberty.

The court heard the victim had suffered PTSD and was physically, mentally and emotionally scarred.

In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, he said he feared for his life, had to install security cameras in his home and had severe anxiety.

Judge Brian Devereaux said it was extremely serious offending.

“This was appalling and demeaning behaviour. The way you treated him was disgusting,” he said.

Siganto was sentenced to four years’ jail and would be eligible for parole on August 10 this year.

He had already served 747 days in pre-sentence custody.
