A 23-year-old Slacks Creek mum, who rammed a police car while attempting to get away in a stolen car, found her life “spiralling out of control” due to daily meth use, a court has heard.

Slacks Creek mum of one Kayla Louise Eggmolesse, 23, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday to 13 charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of motor vehicles, trespass and common assault.

The court heard Eggmolesse was driving a stolen vehicle when she rammed a police car and continued to drive around a residential parking lot on June 24.

The damage done to both the stolen vehicle and police car cost a total $14,607 in repairs.

Magistrate Ron Kilner said her criminal history was littered with similar offending dating back to 2016.

“You put police officers lives at risk and the risk of injury, as well as your own, life and injury,” he said.

“A person who drives a motor vehicle without a licence in the way that you did quite frankly indicates that you don’t have any regard for anyone, including yourself.”

Eggmolesse’s lawyer told the court that her client claims she hadn’t realised the car was in reverse when she hit the cop car but didn’t make any excuses for the rest of her actions.

She said Eggmolesse had a disadvantaged childhood and was subjected to family violence and witnessed a lot of alcohol abuse growing up.

“As a consequence of her exposure and upbringing, drugs became quite a problem for her at a young age,” she said.

“She found herself running from home. When she found out she was pregnant at 15 she ceased all drugs and alcohol abuse and told me life was going pretty well.

“She gave birth at 16 and eventually did relapse and started using again and by the time she was 18 methamphetamine was a big problem for her.

“At the time of the offences before the court she was using methamphetamines daily and she acknowledged that her life was spiralling out of control.

“In 2020, she also suffered the loss of her cousin who was tragically killed and this played quite a significant part in her mental health given they were very close in their upbringing.”

The court heard she had spent 93 days in pre-sentence custody which was marked as time served.

She was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with an immediate parole release date.

She was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay $14,607 in restitution.
