A close friend of an Energex meter reader who was killed in a savage dog attack while at work said he was the type of mate who would make sure his friends were “safe”, as investigations continue into his horrific death.
Kane Minion was working at a property at Greenbank on December 3 when he was attacked by two dogs before dying at the scene shortly after.
Tributes for the 42-year-old, who was about to celebrate his engagement to his fiance on Christmas Day, have flooded social media since the incident.
Dru Arnold knew the Marsden resident for almost a decade, even touring the US with him for a month, and said he was just an “all-round awesome guy”.
“So I met Kane working out west for a seismic company, we all became more than just mates,” he said.
“We ended up travelling to America together for four weeks and Kane was just a true legend.
“(He was) always looking out for everyone making sure we were safe.
“Kane had time for everyone no matter his own head space, he was just an all-round awesome guy.”
Mr Arnold said he couldn’t believe the tragic news when he heard about his friend’s death.
“I was just in disbelief to be honest, that such a horrible thing could happen to him let alone it’s anyone such a horrific way to go,” he said.
“Kane will be dearly missed by everyone he came in touch with his personality was so contagious.”
Mr Minion had worked for Downer Group’s Skilltech for seven years but was working as a contractor for Energex at the time.
Queensland Police said Police investigations into the incident are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
A Logan City Council spokesman said they were working closely with police and others in their investigations into the fatal attack.
“Logan City Council’s heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with the family and
friends of the victim and others who may have been impacted by the tragic incident at
Greenbank last weekend,” the spokesman said.
“Council strongly promotes responsible pet ownership and has zero-tolerance for
dogs that act in, or might be kept in, a way that could compromise community safety.
“Council responded swiftly in challenging circumstances to seize two dogs from a
Greenbank property on Saturday. Both were registered with Council. Neither dog
was on any list of regulated menacing or dangerous dogs.
“The animals will remain impounded as the investigation continues.”
Other friends in Mr Arnold and Mr Minion’s group also remembered their fallen friend on social media.
“Hard to believe, rest in peace brother,” Michael Marks wrote.
“Kane, larger than life you were. Always smiling, lover of all people and beings. A true friend. Our best friend. A whole has been ripped in our hearts. Our brother. Rest easy,” another person commented.
