Tributes flow for Osamah Al Khafaji after Belmont fatal crash

Friends and family of a teenager killed in a horrific car crash at Brisbane last week have paid homage to the student in the days following his death.

The 17-year-old boy who died at the scene of a horrific crash in Brisbane late last week has been identified.

Osamah Al Khafaji, of Upper Mount Gravatt, died at the scene of a single car crash at Belmont on Thursday, November 11.

Another teenager was rushed to hospital after the crash.

Police said the incident occurred just after 11pm when a blue Lexus crashed into bushland off Mt Petrie Rd at Belmont.

The driver, Mansfield State High School student Osamah Al Khafaji, died at the scene.

His 15-year-old passenger was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Osamah’s cousin, Rashid Alkhafaji, said he was like a brother to him.

“We have been raised together and now he’s gone,” he said.

One of Osamah’s friends, Liam Shire, said he couldn’t believe his ‘brother’ was gone.

“I love you forever,” he said.

Others took to Facebook to share tributes.

“My dear Osama, your place is paradise,” Baghdad Flower said.

“May God have mercy on you.

“Your place is heaven” Maryam Al-Hamadani said.

A memorial has been established on Mt Petrie Rd at the site of the horrific crash.

Other students, family and friends have left flowers for Osamah.

“Forever 17,” a plaque left there read.

“Rest in peace Osamah/Pablo.

“Only up.”
