A Logan drug driver who hit the son of a top Queensland cop has been jailed again for punching his partner, only two weeks after she delivered their baby via caesarean section.

Joshua Grant Shackell was jailed in 2020 for accidentally driving into Constable Ben Condon in 2018 while high on cocaine and ecstasy.

He was sentenced to three years jail and released immediately on parole in Brisbane District Court.

Shackell faced court again on August 4 for an assault charge against his ex-girlfriend where he pushed her and bottles were thrown.

The Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard Shackell, from South Maclean, was having an argument with his ex-partner in Mt Warren Park on January 28.

The court heard the argument centred on him drinking too much.

Later that evening Shackell, 23, was standing at the door being loud and abusive and pushed his partner on the shoulder from the door and she fell on her stomach.

The victim had just given birth to their baby two weeks earlier via a caesarean section.

Two days later Shackell returned to the home and grabbed his partner by the shirt, ripping her buttons as he was kicked out of the house.

The victim called police and Shackell retaliated by grabbing a full beer bottle and pelting it towards the victim’s sister, hitting her car.

The court heard the bottle smashed the windscreen of the sister’s car.

Shackell pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault and one count of wilful damage.

In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, Shackell’s ex-girlfriend said his attacks affected her mental health and she felt fearful.

“I was struggling, had just given birth with a C-section and my mental health deteriorated even more after the attack,” she said in the statement.

“I feel scared for my life whenever I see an unknown number call on my phone.”

Magistrate Cameron McKenzie said the offending was concerning.

“This was protracted, serious violence and I don’t accept that you’re remorseful at all,” he said.

Shackell was sentenced to 12 months prison, wholly suspended for three years.

He had already served 193 days of pre-sentence custody.

Shackell was also ordered to pay $1000 in compensation to his ex-partner’s sister for the damage to the car windscreen.
