A father has faced court charged with allegedly crashing his car into a Logan home on purpose while drunk with his family as passengers before turning his aggression to police.
Jeremy William Barnes, 37, appeared in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 8 on several charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, serious assault and killing or injuring police dogs.
Police allege Barnes ploughed an SUV into a house on Eagleby Rd, Eagleby on October 2 about 7.10pm – destroying an elderly couple’s home while his wife and children were passengers.
Police also allege the Doolandella resident became aggressive and assaulted police, who responded by deploying a taser and a police dog to apprehend him.
Magistrate Gary Finger said the home belonged to an elderly couple and was extremely damaged.
“The quantum of the damage and the impact of the damage is quite significant,” he said.
“It’s not the fault of the victim that he is now homeless.”
The matter was adjourned so the court could hear a victim impact statement from the elderly couple.
Prosecution also stated an accurate blood alcohol reading was required.
“The court should be fully informed of the facts which includes the blood alcohol reading certificate and victim impact statement,” Magistrate Finger said.
Barnes will appear again in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on December 5.
