A Crestmead teen deliberately crashed a stolen Mercedes into a cop car, causing almost $10,000 worth of damage and landing himself in jail.

Hayden Delaney, 18, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 7, 2022, to 19 charges, including seven counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and four burglaries.

The teen’s wild crime spree occurred from May 7 to June 7, 2022 and while he was on parole.

The court heard the most serious offending was on June 7 when Delaney was driving a stolen Mercedes that had been reported stolen from Calamvale.

Police located Delaney and stopped him. He then drove deliberately into the path of the police and struck the car causing $9600 worth of damage.

Delaney drove off in the Mercedes, revving loudly before abandoning the car in at a unit complex in Woodridge.

He pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Magistrate Tracy Mossop said stealing a car was a very serious offence.

“When you take somebody’s transportation you affect their life significantly,” she said.

The court heard Delaney was hoping to work in the healthcare industry when he got out of prison.

Mrs Mossop said his offending would make it more challenging to achieve this goal.

“If you want a government job you’re already behind the eight ball because of your criminal history, but you are still young and have time.”

Delaney was sentenced to two years and four months in prison and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He will be eligible for parole on December 1.
