A Logan tattoo artist who forged a document to go on a drug-fuelled joy ride across cities to escape police has fronted court charged with four offences.

A Logan tattoo artist who forged a document to go on a drug-fuelled joy ride in a stolen car to escape police has fronted court charged with four offences.

Kenly Nguyen, 27, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 3 to unlawful use and possession of a motor vehicle, driving without a license and possession of dangerous drugs.

The court heard the Beenleigh resident was found driving a stolen car in Redlands on February 11, 2022.

Nguyen attempted to hide from police under a caravan but was found and arrested.

The court also heard that on February 15, 2022 Nguyen was found with a fake drivers license and in possession of dangerous drugs, where he told police he created the license himself.

On January 4, 2022 Nguyen was also stopped by police, who found a drug in his system, and he also obstructed police on January 6.

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll said the best way for Nguyen to avoid a prison sentence was to avoid drugs.

“The sooner you can avoid using dangerous drugs, the better for you and your family,” he said.

“If you have drugs in your possession, you risk serving time.”

Mr O’Driscoll said Nguyen’s attempts to hide from police showed a clear sign of desperation.

“In terms of driving the car, you should have known better. If it’s not your car, say no,” he said.

Nguyen was sentenced to nine months in prison with an immediate parole release after already serving 41 days of pre-sentence custody.

His driving license was disqualified for two years.
