A Loganholme man who drunkenly assaulted somebody outside a Brisbane city hostel and stole a pokie player’s winning ticket has been jailed for the incidents as well as numerous thefts.

Lindsay Rowan Wilson, 32, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm and committing a fraudulent act.

The court heard that on July 2, 2021 Wilson was at Brisbane Casino when a man stood up from a pokie machine that had a winning ticket.

Wilson then took over the machine and grabbed the winning ticket for himself in what Magistrate Terry Duroux said was “like a vulture”.

The court also heard on the same day, Wilson was drunk outside Chill Backpackers hostel in Brisbane and was asked to leave the area.

He left while yelling at the victim and then grabbed him and tackled him to the ground, causing abrasions to the victim’s hands.

Wilson told police the victim “was being disrespectful”.

The court heard Wilson was living in a stolen car in December last year.

On January 17, 2022, the car was located by police and Wilson said it was given to him by a mate he didn’t know that well but the victim’s property was found in the car.

Wilson was found in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.

He pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a motor vehicle and drug possession.

The court heard Wilson filled the car with petrol on four occasions and drove off without paying, stealing over $200 dollars.

Magistrate Duroux said stealing a person’s car was very serious and disrespectful to the community.

“Some people in the community, the most important possession they own is a vehicle. People like you think it is ok to come along and use it, it is not,” he said.

“It is also concerning when recidivist offenders go into fuel stations, take fuel and drive off.”

Wilson was sentenced to 9 months in prison, to be released on parole on October 13.

He was ordered to pay $444 in restitution to the pokies player and fined $320 for the stolen fuel.
